Why Suffering

Everyone has personally suffered on some level and probably knows someone who has as well. Often the question that arises when pertaining to religion is: if God is good why would he allow people to suffer? Firstly, everyone from every background must answer this question whether it be the Christian faith, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Atheism, or any other belief system. However, the question remains: who has the best answer meeting the requirements intellectually as well as to the deepest parts of the human heart? This then will take a bit of patience and diligence on one’s part if they truly desire to understand who they are and if they desire the answers to the questions that so pervasively find themselves in every human life at some point. I will make it my aim to concisely break down what each worldview has to say about suffering and create an objective insight into the world of belief systems and if there exists a satisfying answer for suffering.

  7. I look around the world today and I see more and more suffering and trials in which individuals are forced to face even if they could try and choose not to. We see wars and rumors of wars, we see Christians around the world being murdered and persecuted more than any other religion, we see natural disasters that are destroying lands and peoples’ livelihood.

The question that we see come up every time no matter the culture or place is: Why me? Why did this have to happen to me? We then find that this question is answered differently depending on one’s worldview. But ultimately how does one deal with such tragedy? How does one navigate through their entire family killed? How does one maintain any hope after this? This is a struggle and their is no easy path. But, there does remain a difference between in what one hopes in and how that will specifically pertain to their future in living life. Jesus Christ is something different in that He SUFFERED on the cross and died for the world. In this suffering we then are able to connect at a personal level with Him when we place our faith in Him for who He is and what He accomplished. So after one repents and places their faith in Jesus they are now walking with Him as the Spirit now indwells them. This transformation now brings with it a new hope that has the ability to carry one through anything they might endure. Not saying it will be easy, but it can be managed through Jesus. There is no other religion that has a god with a personal relationship with believer and not only that but that personally suffered and died for the sins of the world so that human kind can be reconciled to God. There is no other kind where hope lies in Jesus who died as God Himself. This is a unique relationship.

  8. I am no longer sure where you’re getting your info, however good topic. I needs to spend some time studying much more or understanding more. Thanks for excellent info I used to be on the lookout for this information for my mission.

  9. We all can recognize what’s going on around the world right now. With the world being impacted by COVID and seeming to only now view this as the new normal in our daily lives, suffering is at the forefront for many. Some have had to watch their loved ones pass away. It seems tragedy after tragedy strikes many to the very root of their being and all that’s left is grief and tears. What do we make out of all of this? How do we navigate through life after dealing with so much and never being the same person again? How do we find a moment of peace amidst this suffering? These questions cannot be avoided. There does exist help and the assurance of peace.

  10. Christians in Pakistan are being murdered daily for their faith. Freedom of religion comes at a cost for many around the world. May we recognize this tragedy and never take our freedom for granted. If you were faced with death for your faith would you renounce it? Our prayers go out to those who are suffering greatly.

  11. Some are required to endure much suffering for their faith. Regardless of their beliefs, not all people will accept them. Whether it be from culture and traditions or laws of one’s country, freedom is not experienced by all to believe in what they want without consequences. Should one be forced to worship something they don’t believe in? Should one not be given the openness to examine all that is said to be truth? How difficult it is for one who grows up in a theocratic society to pursue any other kind of belief system without sacrificing their family, country, and everything they’ve ever known. Would you be willing to receive such consequences in your country for your faith? I have come to find that suffering for what you believe in reveals if you really do believe in it.

  12. Very interesting thoughts. I think that you make some really good points and I agree with it. I do think that everyone does have to answer this question. I love this and hope more get involved.

  13. This is a very intriguing conversation and I believe that everyone can relate to suffering as you have mentioned. Such a question provokes in me to ask the question as to how we manage such suffering? Is there a hope that drives us through it regardless of what happens?

    1. I think that many have hope in various things, but what kind of hope is able to endure through some of the most difficult situations I think carries with it something special.

      1. James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
I didn’t understand this before but as i matured in Christ, i see that God has built up my faith through my trials, but taught me to see through his eyes. If we can vision “ the outcome of our circumstances then we can count it Joy! because God gave us the ability to have vision and walk in faith , as it is ! He already brought us through! i can rejoice because He already went before me”..
