What Is Love

Throughout the centuries love has been in the lines of the most famous poets, singed in passionate songs stirring the soul, and intertwined into the very fabric of every known empire. To this day we hear and listen to how important love is and what a life-changing experience it is. Yet, we rarely hear or engage in conversation about the nature of love or what love actually is. Where does this answer lie? Paul, a follower of Christ, wrote about love in a very interesting way, a way that touches the soul. A way that I could never deliver on my own power. Does your love ever fail? Is your love ever self-seeking? Is it provoked? Does it think evil? Are you ever unkind? Does it endure all things that come into your life no matter how difficult they may be? If we are unable to love in this manner who can? If a women tells her girlfriend she “loves” her dress, is this love? What kind of love? Are there different kinds of love? There seems to exist endless questions to this subject and I will attempt to unpack some of it to the best of my ability.

  3. Who can love like how Paul describes? Can you? Why not? In our society love has been trivialized to such a degree that individuals will love you dog, your outfit, your hair, etc. Do they like it or love it? So then when they tell their mother or brother or father that they “love” them. what does this actually mean? They have no place their “love” of an outfit on the same level as their love for the mother. So, the very meaning of what love means intrinsically has been watered down and continues to be. But what is the standard of love? Is there an absolute of love? If not, does this mean each one of us then has the right to develop our own version and the definition of what love is? If so, i could deem slapping someone across the face when they look at me wrong as a loving gesture. Yet, most would disagree that this is actually loving. Why? Why naturally do we have built within us that it is not okay to torture a baby? Where does this come from? According to the Christian perspective Love is defined by God and that God is in fact Love. He displayed His great love for us in that He offered His only Son Jesus to die for our sins. This a specific unconditional kind of love that love regardless of the other persons actions. How is it even possible to love like this? Would you willingly sacrifice your child or any loved one to save another? There is much to unpack here and we will begin to do so slowly. Is there anything specific anyone would like to discuss or touch on? Hope to hear from you soon! Be blessed.

  4. Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do some research on this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such excellent info being shared freely out there.

  5. Today, the definition of love comes from the infatuation of one’s physical nature. No longer is there an absolute definition from that beyond one’s own desires. A tragedy it seems to know whatever one deems as being loving is loving to them and to another their own standard. Yet, one’s standard can be to physically harm you equals love and another a simple compliment. What is the true definition and how can one know for certain it is?
